The Historic Irvington Halloween Festival

On Saturday, October 22 at 6:00pm, Snips Salon and Irvington Presbyterian Church will host the 3rd Annual Miss Irvington Halloween Scholarship Pageant. This event is held annually to crown the Irvington Halloween Festival Queen. Contestants will be judged on an original costume, interview, evening wear, and an onstage question.

The winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship to her college of choice, with 1st and 2nd runner-ups and best costume winning a cash prize as well. The winner will also be eligable to compete next year in the State Festival Pageant.

The following ladies will compete:

Jade Humble Schimmel is currently a senior at Scecina Memorial High School.  She is active in cheerleading, National Honor Society, student ambassadors, Academic Superbowl and Catholic Youth Organization volleyball and basketball.

Kaylah Barger attends Warren Central High School and is active in Best Buddies, a mentoring program for special needs high school students and Serendipity, a color guard group for special needs children.  In the Irvington community, Kaylah is active in her church and and with her youth group.

Emilie McLaughlin is a senior at Scecina Memorial High School.  She was born on June 12, 1993 in Lafayette, IN.  She went to Holy Spirit grade school.  Her parents are Matt and Tracie McLaughlin.  At Scecina, she has been involved in cross country, the spring musical, track, National Honor Society, Right to Life and A Promise to Keep.  She was named captain of her cross country team this year, of which she is very proud.  Her plans for next year are to attend Purdue University and study psychology and fashion merchandising.

Jaclyn Clegg is currently a senior a Scecina Memorial High School. She graduated middle school from, and is a member of Little Flower Parish. In school, she is involved in A Promise to Keep, National Honor Society and hair and makeup for the school play. She has played soccer since she was four years old and travel soccer with her USF Real team for the last six years. Jackie also has a love for animals. She exercises and trains horses and also competes in equestrian events. As well, she volunteers every week at Edelweiss Equine Assisted Therapy Center, giving riding lessons to handicap children. In the fall, Jackie will attend college. Her plan is to study either physical therapy or special education. Her number one goal in life is to make a difference for somebody else and be happy.

Emily Gibbons is a senior at Scecine Memorial High School.  She is involved in cross country, swimming, creative writing, student ambassadors and also is the editor of the yearbook while designing the school newspaper’s website.  She sings in the youth and Christmas choir at Little Flower Parrish and also serves as a Eucharistic Minister.  She has taught a second grade religious education class and was a counselor during Vacation Bible School.  Emily is the daughter of Pete and Lisa Gibbons.  Emily plans on attending either IUPUI or the Art Institute—focusing on photography and web design.  Emily has been promoting local music venues in order to keep teens off the streets.  She has started promoting small town bands as well in hopes to help them break into larger markets.

Katie Anne Null attended Little Flower Catholic Grade School and is now a senior at Scecina Memorial High School. In school, she maintains a 4.3 GPA on a 4.0 scale, while participating in many extracurricular activities.  She is on the golf, swimming, tennis and track teams. This year Katie won 8^th place at City out of 60 girls in golf and was all conference.  She was awarded most improved on the swim team, while serving as captain this year.  Katie participates in various clubs; A Promise to Keep, Academic Superbowl, math club, writing club, fall play, Father Tom service team, guitar club, Spanish club, spirit club, student ambassadors, band, spring musicals, National Honor Society and Right to Life. She will attend Marian University next fall to major in nursing, with a minor in Latin.  She will also be playing on Marian’s golf team.
